Esther Lederberg (New York, 1922 – 2006) was a microbiologist and a pioneer in bacterial genetics. She discovered a bacteriophage virus, gene transfer between bacteria and the fertility factor and developed the replica plating method. Her work helped her husband, Joshua Jederberg, along with George Beadle and Edward Tatum, to win the Nobel Prize in 1958, however, she wasn’t mentioned.
