Roger Arliner Young (Clifton Forge 1899 – New Orleans 1964)
was a zoologist and marine biologist. She was the first African-American woman to earn a PhD in zoology. As a female African-American scientist at US universities, she was limited to teaching positions with no access to research facilities. Her studies on salt concentrations, hydration and dehydration of cells were published in prestigious journals like Sciences.
