Augusta Ada King, the Countess of Lovelace (London, 1815 –1852) was a writer, mathematician, physicist and the first computer programmer. She collaborated on the design for Charles Babbage’s Analytical Engine, which could solve differential equations and she wrote the first algorithm to be processed by a machine. The Ada programming language, created by the US Department of Defense, was named after her.
