On 4 July 1054, Chinese astronomers observed the supernova SN 1054 appear in the constellation Taurus. The Anasazi Indians of present-day Arizona in the USA also observed it and depicted it in a petroglyph in Chaco Canyon. The Crab nebula is its remnant and is currently 75 000 times more energetic than the sun.
