Caroline Lucretia Herschel (Hanover, 1750 – 1848) was a German astronomer who worked in England with her brother, Sir William Herschel, creating telescopes and making observations. She discovered eight comets, six of which bear her name. She was the first woman to present a paper to the Royal Astronomical Society and was one of the first two women to be appointed to the Royal Astronomical Society, alongside Mary Fairfax Somerville.
