Florence Nightingale (Florence, 1820 – London, 1910) was a British nurse, writer and statistician. A trailblazer of professional nursing, she founded the first secular nursing school in the world. She was the first woman admitted to Britain’s Royal Statistical Society, and in 1907 she became the first woman to receive the Order of Merit of the United Kingdom.
