Granville T. Woods (Columbus, 1856 - New York, 1910) was an electrical and mechanical engineer, he invented a wide range of devices for the railway industry. In 1887, he patented the Synchronous Multiplex Railway Telegraph, making it possible for trains to communicate with the station and with other trains to know exactly where they were at all times. Many of his inventions were sold to General Electric, Westinghouse and Bell Telephone.
