Agnes Pockels (Venecia, 1862 – Brunswick, 1935) German scientist pioneer in the monocapas camp. If a woman cannot enter university, it is thanks to her little brother Friedich, who studied at the University of Göttingen, that he has access to scientific literature. Legend has it that washing dishes in your kitchen reveals the influence of impurities on the surface tension of liquids. To correct the surface tension, the Pockels cubeta, precursor of Langmuir, was deployed. In 1891, with the help of the physicist Lord Rayleigh, he published his first work on “surface tension” in the journal Nature. In 1932, the Technische Hochschule in Braunschweig awarded him an honorary doctorate.
