María Orosa e Ylagan (Taal, 1893 – Manila 1945 ) filipino physician and pharmaceutical researcher. She worked at her parents' food shop and was a good student. She was a stowaway on a ship to the United States where she worked as a maid and was finally able to study Pharmacy at the University of Washington. She returned to the Philippines where she developed alternatives for food preservation. She created a special clay pot for cooking food in poor areas of her country where there was no electricity. In World War II she served as a captain and created food supplements. The Red Cross honoured her with a posthumous award for her efforts in making dietary supplements.
