Elizabeth Bugie Gregory (1920-2001) American biochemist. She studied microbiology at the University for Women of New Jersey. He worked in Waksman’s laboratory to search for the antidote for tuberculosis. Together with Albert Schatz and Selman Waksman identified streptomycin as the first antibiotic against mycobacterium tuberculosis. Her name does not appear on the patent document, which was justified on the grounds that as a woman she would one day marry and have children. Selman Waksman won the Nobel Prize, got the recognition and a good part of the money. Elizabeth only obtained 0.2% of the patent rights.
