Caroline Lucretia Herschel (Hanover, 1750 – 1848) German astronomer, worked in England with her brother Sir William Herschel in the development of their telescopes and in their observations. He discovered eight comets, six of which bear his name. She was the first woman to present a paper to the Royal Astronomical Society and along with Mary Fairfax Somerville were the first two women elected by the Royal Astronomical Society.
