Daniel McFarlan Moore (Northumberland, 1869 – East Orange, 1936)
Electrical engineer, invented the Moore lamp, the first commercial light bulb based on gas instead of incandescence, and is considered the predecessor of today’s fluorescent and neon lights. He was murdered by an unemployed colleague. He had just applied for a patent and went crazy when he discovered that Moore already owned the intellectual rights to the invention.
