Florence Nightingale, (Florence, 1820 – London, 1910), was a British nurse, writer and statistician, precursor of professional nursing, she founded the first lay school of nursing in the world. She was the first woman admitted to the British Royal Statistical Society and in 1907 she became the first woman to receive the Order of Merit of the United Kingdom.
