Lucilio Vanini (Taurisano, 1585 – Toulouse, 1619)

Italian philosopher, defended that the universe is governed by natural laws and that human beings evolved from monkeys. He was one of the many predecessors of Darwin in affirming that some animals could transform into others. He was condemned for blasphemy, had his tongue cut out, was strangled and finally burned.
